A re-created fort depicting the Virginia Company of London's military outpost in 1610-14

Get a glimpse at daily life in the fort

Venture inside the walls of the re-created 1610-14 fort and discover how the colonists would have lived. Explore thatched roof structures, as well as an Anglican church, a court of guard, a storehouse and a governor’s house.

Inside the fort, you may see interpreters making wood and leather products using 17th-century-style tools, sewing or preparing meals. Outside the fort, interpreters seasonally grow heirloom vegetables and herbs as well as crops of tobacco and corn.

Watch historical interpreters forge and repair metal objects in a blacksmith’s forge or enjoy one of our daily matchlock musket demonstrations.

Watch a video about the mechanics of 17th- and 18th-century muskets.
