Understanding African and African American History

Pre-15th Century Africa to the Founding of the United States

Immerse yourself in 17th- and 18th-century African and African American history and culture. Join the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation and The Mariners’ Museum for this free virtual professional development opportunity. This series of programs is designed to equip elementary, middle and high school teachers with an enhanced understanding of the significant role Black people have played in the formation of the United States. Sessions provide resources and information that supports several new and existing Virginia 2023 History and Social Science Standards of Learning.

Since each session builds on prior information and skills, we recommend that participants attend all workshops. These 90-minute, immersive workshops will be presented virtually at 7 p.m. EST.
